It's not really an official announcement, but Manga Time that serialize K-ON! has reported that K-ON! will end in the next issue. Whether if this is true or not, we'll just have to wait till there's an official announcement or if it's just a change from High School to University settings.

I am still hopeful that it will be like shugo chara. That ended and then they announced shugo chara encore.
I'm kinda hoping for an 'encore' myself. Maybe about their life in university
