Cute but Evil - Raccoons Vs Temple

Phoenix Hall of Kyoto's Byodoin Temple found themselves having cute little visitors. And oh, the guy up there, ate up one of the 'C'.

But the little critters didn't actually behave themselves during their visit. Scratch marks can be seen over the ancient wood-works. One of the pillars suffered 14 claw marks and is judged to be the work of an adult raccoon and with the temple being one of Kyoto's prized monument many were concerned.

The thing about raccoons is that they didn't even originate from Japan. They were brought to Japan in 1970 as pets when they became popular due to anime.
